Get Up, Get Cute, Get Going!


As a business owner, many of us feel like our business is our baby.  It is like one of our children to us; we have a profound love for our store(s).


Back in 2008, when sales took a downturn, I realized that the advice I gave to my daughters was what I needed to use myself.  My poor children heard this more than once, “Get Up, Get Cute and Get Going!”.  When they felt overwhelmed and stressed out, and all they wanted to do was bury their head in the sand and hope everything would be better, they would spend time lying around watching TV.  I would tell them to “Get Up, Get Cute, and Get Going!”


It never failed that they felt even worse after laying around trying to ignore their problem.

Do not sit around complaining or feeling sorry for yourself.  You must take control of your mindset and DO something.  If sales are down, if your customer count is down, YOU must GET UP and make some changes.  The first thing you must realize is that YOU must Get Up and make it happen.  Hoping things will change is not a tactic that works.


You have to Pick Yourself Up and Decide to make a change.





Everyone feels better when they are looking their best.  Your confidence level goes up when you fix your hair and put on your best outfit.


So, put your best foot forward in your store too. Clean it up, dust the baseboards, sweep up the dust bunnies, paint the walls, clean the carpet, refresh your signage.  These are easy things to fix, and it gets your blood flowing, your mind working, and you moving in the right direction.




When you are stressed/depressed, and feeling stuck, I highly recommend you take some time to clear your mind.  Get your mind off YOU and focus on OTHERS for a bit.  Go volunteer somewhere.  Helping others is some of the BEST medicine!  You will be amazed at the ideas that will come to you when you do not focus on your problem.  Then Get Out There – join a networking group or buying group; find a mastermind group to participate in; go to educational seminars at market; seek out peers and coaches in your industry to guide you and be willing to implement changes in your life and business.
