Did you see the VeggieTales movie “Jonah”?

My favorite character was a little caterpillar who had some issues.  He would listen to positive self-talk recordings as he slept.  The recording would say that he was a very skilled metal worker.  It was something he did not believe about himself, so he tried to drill it into his brain by listening to it repetitively every night.  Our catchphrase around our house when someone needed some positive self-talk was, “You are a very skilled metal worker”.  It helped each of us through times when we needed to believe in ourselves and know that we had what it takes to get the job done.

Are you overwhelmed?  Do you feel negative or out of control?  Here are thoughts to combat that and get back on track.

  • Start your morning routine with prayer and/or meditation.
  • Each morning, write down at least 5 things you are grateful for.
  • Read some motivational books and self-help books.
  • Take care of your body by eating right and exercising. Yoga is a great practice to get your body moving while also engaging your mind in positive thoughts.

Being negative does not accomplish anything.  When those negative thoughts and feelings come pouring into your brain, train your mind to think about these things…

Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, whatever is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.

-Philippians 4:9

You are in control of your thought life, so do it.  Take those negative thoughts captive and replace them with truth about you and your business.  You CAN do this!  There are people who can help you!  You are not alone!  There is beauty in the world! You are a very skilled metal worker!

Don’t try to go it alone. Retail is hard enough as it is. You need to talk to, share with, and learn from others who are going through or have been through what you’re dealing with.
